We began our curriculum, at least part of the time, for the first time this week. The students did very well and are adjusting to the workload in third grade. Next week we will be teaching lessons full time, and continuing to have daily Open Circle lessons to work on community building.
Our Holland Open House will be held on September 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. I will be giving a presentation at 5:15 for approximately 15-20 minutes and would love to see all of my parents at this time. Of course if you can't be there at that time I will be available in the classroom until 7 p.m. to answer questions.
There are many opportunities to volunteer in our classroom, should you like to come in and help out. You need to have a CORI form on file before working with the children. These can be done in the office and need to be done on a yearly basis. If you have a valid CORI form and would like to work either in the classroom with children or help out with copies, etc. please go to the VOLUNTEER tab on my website and sign up. This way I will know you are coming and have materials prepared for you.
Many children are arriving late each day. Students are expected to be lined up and ready to go to class at 7:20. I begin our math lesson promptly at 7:30 a.m. If your child arrives late (not due to busses) and misses this lesson I will be teaching it during recess to ensure that he/she does not fall behind. If this happens more than three times I will request a meeting. Children who arrive after 7:30 must go to the office for a tardy slip with a parent before coming to class. Being on time and ready to learn sends a message to your child that school is an important place.
Next week I will be sending home a reading log for you to initial each night indicating that your child read for 20 minutes. Please do not sign if your child would not read. Your child will not make progress in reading unless he/she reads each day. If you need some books for the house please send a note.
Thank you so much for your continued support of our work. I am blessed to have such a great class.
