It is hard to believe that it is already December! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday with their children. We have a busy week ahead in grade three. On Tuesday we will be taking the children to the New England Aquarium. Please send in your permission form if you have not already. Students without the form will not be permitted to attend. You will need to send a packed lunch on Tuesday as well, as we will not be visiting the restaurant or gift shop that day due to time constraints. I am need of two more chaperones, so please contact me on Monday if you would be able to attend and help out - a ticket would be provided for you.
Students will be taking their second round of ANET tests this week. The Achievement Network tests are assessments that allow us to see how students are progressing on the common core standards. These are the standards that your students will be tested on during the March and May MCAS exams. Third graders take an MCAS exam in both reading and math. As you know, your child cannot graduate high school if he/she does not pass the MCAS exams in 10th and 11th grade, and so we want to start them on the path to success early. I will discuss the results of your child's ANET tests with you during parent-teacher conferences.
Parent conferences are going to be held the week of December 16th. I will be sending home a sign-up sheet tomorrow with available times for conferences. Conferences will be 10 minutes in length and I will discuss your child's report card during that time. I expect each parent to attend a conference, so if the times I have provided do not work with your schedule please contact me to schedule a more convenient time.
Have an enjoyable Sunday! ~ Mrs. Mark
