I hope that everyone was able to enjoy a restful, fun vacation with their children. School is back in session on Monday, January 6, 2014. A reminder that school starts at 7:30 a.m. and children should plan to be in their seats at 7:20 a.m.
We will begin a new unit on fractions this week. This is typically a difficult unit for students, and it is very important that students complete all homework assignments to receive extra practice on each new skill. I will be starting a math lunchtime group for students this week (students signed up voluntarily) and we will review previously taught skills through games and competitions. I will post fraction games on my Math Help page for students to utilize for extra help.
We will begin MCAS preparations in earnest this week, with daily MCAS packets and instruction in test-taking skills. Students will have nightly reading homework in addition to their 20 minutes of reading. Students who are not doing homework will be doing it during recess. Students who miss more than two assignments will meet with me and their parents.
Students whose parents did not meet with me during conference week will receive another invitation on Monday. Please sign up for a conference time and return the form by Friday. This will be the last opportunity to receive your child's first semester report card.
As always, we love having parents join our classroom. Visit my Volunteer page at /volunteer.html to sign up for a visit.
Enjoy the rest of your vacation! ~ Mrs. Mark
