With the end of December fast approaching, it is time for us to hold our annual parent-teacher conferences. Conference sign-up forms were sent home with your children last week. Please send back as soon as possible to ensure that you are given time to meet with me. Conferences are to be held the week of December 16th and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. I will be sending home conference confirmation sheets early next week. Conferences will be 10 minutes in length, and parents who arrive late will be given whatever time is left in their scheduled appointment.
During our conference you should expect to discuss the following:
REPORT CARD: We will review your child's report card grades and I will give you an opportunity to ask questions or share concerns. You can take the report card home following our conference.

DIBELS: Your child is tested during the first weeks of school to determine their ORF, or oral reading fluency, utilizing DIBELS. Fluency is a measure of how quickly and accurately your child can read. We also measure your child's ability to recall the major points of the story. The beginning of the year ORF is expected to be 70 words/minute. I will provide you with your child's score and ways to improve it if it is below expectations.
ANET SCORES: Your child will have taken two Achievement Network tests in both math and reading by the time that we have met. These tests are intended to be an indicator of your child's potential performance on the spring MCAS exams. I will share your child's first and second scores, and strategies for helping your child to improve at home.
ROCKET MATH: Our third graders are using the Rocket Math program to help them to become fluent in the multiplication facts up to 10 x 10. The third grade curriculum is very heavy in multiplication, and students who are not fluent in these facts will lag far behind those who have them memorized. I will share your child's current level (they should be on level I at this point) and ways that you can help improve fluency from home.
WRITING SAMPLE: I will show you a sample of your child's writing with a grading rubric, along with a sample of grade-level writing for comparison. I can provide you with ideas to improve your child's writing with home activities.
BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT: I will complete a behavior checklist, which will indicate areas that your child may need attention. We can work together to determine if further interventions are necessary.
OTHER: I will also share any other information that is pertitent to your child's success.
