Hello everyone,
It has been a wonderful couple of days meeting my new students and getting to know one another. We have a wonderful group of children, and I can already tell that we are going to have a terrific year in third grade.
The children have been busy getting used to the routines and schedule of the third grade, and I have been modeling the expectations for our class. As I stated in my introductory letter, sent home on Wednesday, I have very clear rules in the classroom and very clear consequences. If you need another copy of our classroom rules and expectations please contact me and one will be sent home.
We have spent a good amount of time doing activities to get to know one another and learning how to work respectfully and cooperatively with our learning partners. We will continue to utilize Open Circle and our classroom Peace Path to ensure that the children have the skills to resolve problems and to know how and when it is necessary to involve adults.
Your child will bring home a Friday Folder every Friday (except the Friday before holiday weeks) that will have their work for the week (not much this week) and a count of missing homework assignments. I will be sending home a copy of our homework policy next week. Please be advised that if you do not sign your child's assignment book or reading log (next week) indicating he/she did their assigned reading minutes then it will be listed as a missing assignment. I would also ask that you never sign if your child didn't actually do their assigned minutes. If you do not have books at home for your child to read, please contact me and books will be allowed to go home.
Thank you so much for getting your child to school on time and ready to learn. I look forward to meeting all of my parents at our school's open house at the end of September. If you need to meet with me prior to that time please contact me! There are also opportunities for you to work in our classroom - just go to the Volunteer page of this website to sign up. Have a great weekend! ~ Mrs. Mark
